Drexan MultiTraceĀ® Self-Regulating Heat Cable | 500 ft Bulk Spool
The Gold Standard for Large-Scale Ice Defense.
When you have a massive roof, a commercial building, or a long pipe run, you don’t buy small pre-made kits. You buy the spool that the pros use.
This is 500Ā feet of the exact same industrial-grade Drexan MultiTraceĀ® cable that Eric Wimmer installs in his videos. Engineered for extreme winter conditions, this cable is the industry benchmark for reliability, energy efficiency, and long-term durability.
Why Professionals Choose Drexan MultiTrace:
-
The “16 AWG” Advantage: Most consumer-grade cables use thin 18-gauge bus wires. We use 16 AWG nickel-plated copper. Why does that matter? Thicker wire means less voltage drop, allowing you to run longer circuitson a single breaker. Itās the difference between a residential toy and a commercial tool.
-
Intelligent Self-Regulation: This cable has a brain. The conductive core automatically detects the ambient temperature at every inch of the pipe or roof. It blasts maximum heat where there is ice and snow, and throttles back where the sun is shining, saving you money on your electric bill.
- Industrial Armor: The rugged, UV-stabilized polyolefin outer jacket is built to survive decades of baking summer sun and freezing winter ice without cracking.
- Safety & Compliance: Fully UL Listed and CSA Certified for both ordinary and hazardous locations.
Future-Proof: Smart Control Ready
Don’t just melt the iceācontrol it. This cable is fully compatible with our integrated wireless switching solutions. Sync your system with Alexa or Google Home to manage your roof protection with voice commands.
-
“Alexa, turn on the heat cable for 48 hours.”
-
Control your system from anywhere via smartphone (requires separate controller).

š Tools You Will Need for Bulk Installation:
Handling a 500 ft spool requires the right setup:
-
Cable Uncoiler / Spool Stand: (Highly Recommended) Do not try to unspool this by hand on the ground. It will twist and kink. Put it on a spindle or a broom handle across two ladders to pull it off straight.
-
Megohmmeter (Megger): (Critical) You cannot install 500 feet of cable without testing the insulation resistance. A standard multimeter isn’t enough to find micro-cracks in the jacket.
-
Heavy-Duty Wire Cutters: You are cutting through thick polyolefin and 16-gauge copper.
š„ Pro-Tips from the Field
Managing a big spool is an art form. Here is how Eric does it:
-
The “Megger” Check: Test the spool BEFORE you cut it. As soon as this arrives, use a Megohmmeter to test the entire spool while it’s still in the box. If there was shipping damage, you want to know now, not after you’ve glued 500 feet to the roof.
-
Plan Your Cuts: Don’t guess. Measure your rooflines twice. Remember to account for the “tails” needed for the power connection (usually 2-3 feet) and the end seal.
-
Label Your Circuits: When running multiple circuits from a bulk spool, label both ends of every cut immediately with a Sharpie or tape tag. Trust us, looking at 5 identical black wires in a junction box is a nightmare.
ā ļø CRITICAL WARNINGS
-
DO NOT POWER THE SPOOL: NEVER plug in or energize the heat cable while it is still coiled on the spool. The heat cannot escape, and the cable will melt into a solid plastic donut, ruining the entire 500 feet instantly.
-
CHECK CIRCUIT CAPACITIES: You cannot run all 500 feet on one breaker. You must consult the Drexan Max Circuit Length Chart to see how many feet you can put on a 15A, 20A, or 30A breaker based on your start-up temperature.
-
RETURN POLICY: This is a professional bulk product. Returns are subject to a 25% restocking fee plus return shipping costs. Please verify your measurements before ordering.
OUR GUARANTEE:
We stand behind our craftsmanship. Every Plug āNā Play kit is backed by an unbeatable 10-Year Limited Warranty. We build them to last, so you can sleep soundly while the temps drop.
